Sometimes there's more than the order in the box: the story of a returned parcel

Sometimes a box contains more than just an order: a story of a returned parcel

Online commerce often looks very simple from the outside: a person clicks "buy," the store packs it, the courier delivers it, the customer receives the goods, and everyone is happy.

But in reality, between these few steps, there are often many small human stories. We want to tell one such story.

It's a story about a box of puppy food. About a delayed shipment. About a customer who can be understood. About a seller who tried to do better. And about a small surprise that was meant to delight, but remained in the box until it returned to us after a long journey.

It all started with a simple order

The customer ordered food for puppies. The order included Royal Canin Puppy Medium dry food and suitable additional products for puppies. Such orders are always a little special for us, because when it comes to a puppy, everything becomes more sensitive.

An adult dog can sometimes wait a day or two if the owner still has some food left at home. But when there's a puppy growing at home, the food situation is entirely different. A puppy eats frequently, needs proper food, in the right quantity, and the owner naturally worries about running out.

That's why we fully understand people who order food and want to receive it as soon as possible. It's not some decorative item that can be postponed until next week. It's a daily necessity.

Royal Canin puppy food can be found here.

Then the delay began

The order was prepared. The box was packed. It seemed like everything was going as usual.

But this time, the shipment took longer. Not because someone didn't want to send it. Not because the order was forgotten. Sometimes, in logistics, the chain just gets stuck.

We planned for the shipment to move faster. However, the courier pickup was postponed. Instead of the box leaving on Thursday, it actually moved only on Monday. Then there was the journey through terminals, sorting, parcel lockers, notifications, waiting.

From the seller's perspective, such situations are very unpleasant. You've already done your part: you accepted the order, packed it, handed it over for shipping. But the customer isn't really interested in that. The customer doesn't see the warehouse, doesn't see the courier's schedule, doesn't see the intermediate stages. The customer only sees one thing: I ordered, I paid, I'm waiting.

And if the wait is too long, it's natural for disappointment to arise.

The customer can truly be understood

The customer called and said the shipment took too long. She had already ordered food elsewhere because the puppy needed food now, not "when the system moves."

And you know what? We understand her.

Sometimes sellers really want to defend themselves: "it's not us," "it's the couriers," "it's the system," "it was delayed due to technical reasons." But that doesn't make it any easier for the person. If there's a puppy at home and the food is running out, the person simply looks for a solution.

So we agreed simply and humanly: the customer doesn't pick up the parcel from the locker, the parcel returns to us, and we refund the money.

No arguments. No accusations. No "read the rules." Just as it should be in such a situation.

The return journey of a parcel is sometimes longer than its initial journey

When a person doesn't pick up a parcel from the locker, it doesn't return instantly. It waits its turn again. Then a courier picks it up. Then it travels to a sorting center. Then somewhere else. And only after all those procedures does it finally return to the seller.

This box also traveled back.

Quite a bit of time passed again. Finally, the box returned to our hands. We processed the refund, wrote to the customer that everything was fine, the situation was closed, the money was being refunded.

It would seem the story is over. But not quite.

When we opened the box, we remembered the surprise ourselves

When the box returned, we opened it to check. And then we remembered what we had completely forgotten.

We had added extra gifts for the puppy to this order.

Not because the customer asked for it. Not because it was promised in an advertisement. Not because we wanted to make a good impression.

Simply because sometimes we do that.

We had various Royal Canin products suitable for puppies, samples, extra packages, and small items. Some of them were left over from older times when we ourselves worked a lot with dogs, breeding, puppies, and their raising. Some things we received as gifts, some we kept for testing, some simply waited for the right occasion.

And this was exactly such an occasion.

A person ordered food for a puppy. This means there's a small growing dog at home. This means that additional puppy-friendly products can definitely come in handy. So we thought: we'll include them. Let the person open the box and be pleasantly surprised.

Just a small "KamOk" surprise.

Sometimes our boxes contain more than what's written on the invoice

This is not an official promotion. This is not a promise that every order will include a gift. And we don't want to pretend that we always add something extra.

But sometimes we really do.

Sometimes it's a dog or cat food sample. Sometimes a small additional product that fits the order. Sometimes coffee. Sometimes some other small item that, in our opinion, can cheer a person up or be useful.

Not always. Not for everyone. Not according to an algorithm.

Just humanly.

When you see that someone is buying for a puppy, and you have something nearby that might suit that puppy, your hand just reaches out and puts it in. Because you want the person to receive not just the goods, but also a good feeling.

In large systems, everything is often very precise: as much as ordered, so much is put in, nothing more, nothing less. We also try to work neatly. But at the same time, we want to maintain the humanity of a small store.

So that behind an order there is not just a table, a warehouse code, and a parcel number, but also a person who sometimes thinks: "Or maybe something else would fit here?"

This time the surprise went unseen

This box contained products whose value, if bought separately, could amount to a considerable sum. Maybe about a hundred euros, maybe more. We didn't calculate precisely, as it wasn't a sales kit. These were just extra gifts added to the order.

But the customer never opened that box.

She was tired of waiting. She had her reasons. She chose another solution. And we don't blame her.

It just turned out to be a somewhat ironic, somewhat sad, but at the same time very real-life situation: the person refused an order that contained significantly more than they expected to receive.

Sometimes that happens.

Sometimes due to haste, distrust, or simple fatigue, a person doesn't wait for that small good thing that was already on its way.

Does this mean that returns should not be made?

No. Of course not.

If the item is unsuitable, if the order is delayed too long, if the situation has changed — the customer has the right to make a decision. We understand and respect that.

This story is not about the customer "doing something wrong." No.

It's more about the fact that behind every order there is sometimes more than what appears on the screen. Sometimes the seller genuinely tries. Sometimes an additional thought, an additional small item, an additional concern is put into the box.

And sometimes that concern remains unseen.

What will we do with this box now?

Since the box returned to us, we will review it. We will check all products, expiration dates, packaging, and condition. If everything is in order, we will assemble a special set for a puppy and offer it at a better price.

Perhaps someone needs puppy food right now. Perhaps someone is raising a puppy and wants to try a few products. Perhaps such a set will be very useful to someone.

Once prepared, it can be found here: Royal Canin dog food at KamOk.lt.

And for now, this box has become a small reminder to us of why KamOk does what it does in the first place.

KamOk is not just a catalog of products

Yes, our store has many products. Food for animals, goods for home, garden, repairs, everyday solutions. Sometimes we even joke that KamOk is gradually becoming not just one shelf, but a small online shopping center.

But it is very important for us that the person is not lost in all of this.

Because in e-commerce, it's very easy to become a cold catalog: name, price, button, delivery. That's it. No connection.

We want it differently.

We want people to be able to write, ask, consult. So that if a problem arises, it can be solved calmly, not with anger. So that if an order is related to a puppy, a kitten, a home or a family, we look not only at the product, but also at the situation.

Sometimes it works better. Sometimes not as well as we'd like. Sometimes couriers are late. Sometimes suppliers get stuck. Sometimes boxes travel longer than they should.

But behind every such case is an attempt to solve it humanely.

A small shop has one big advantage

A large store has large warehouses, large budgets, large advertisements, and highly automated systems. That's convenient.

A small store has another advantage: it can still notice details.

It can see that a person ordered food for a puppy and think that an additional sample would be suitable. It can add coffee to a larger order. It can write a normal letter instead of a standard robotic response. It can try to do a little more than it has to.

It's not always seen. It doesn't always reach the customer. But we believe that trust is born precisely from such small things.

Trust is not created by a single advertising slogan. It develops gradually. From every neatly packed order. From every honest refund. From every answer to a question. From every small gift that no one promised, but someone added.

What is worth knowing when ordering pet food online?

This story reminds us of a few simple things again.

If there's a puppy growing at home, it's worth ordering food without waiting until the last day. Even if the store ships quickly, delays can occur in logistics. It's best to have at least a few days' supply.

If food is urgent, it's always worth writing before ordering. Sometimes we can realistically say: this item will move quickly, but don't wait for this one if you need it tomorrow.

If a problem arises, it's best to talk. Many things can be resolved simply if both sides communicate calmly.

And if you've already received a box from KamOk – sometimes it's worth opening it. Perhaps inside will be only what you ordered. Or perhaps there will also be a small unexpected "thank you."

To conclude

This returned box became not a story of anger for us, but a small reminder.

A reminder that the customer needs to be understood.
A reminder that logistics sometimes fails.
A reminder that good intentions don't always reach the recipient.
And a reminder that even a simple cardboard box sometimes contains more than just goods.

Sometimes it contains care. Sometimes a small surprise. Sometimes an attempt to make things better for a person, even if they don't know anything about it.

At KamOk, we are not perfect. But we try to be human.

And this box? It will still find its puppy.
